Your cat is a furry, curious, and intelligent creature. Celebrated every year is National Answer Your Cat’s questions Day. This year it is celebrated on January 22, 2022! Cat’s learn by taking in their environment and through their paws, fur and especially their noses as their sense of smell picks up tons of things!
So sit down, spend some quality time with your cat, and get to wondering what questions they might be inquiring. We started off a list to help you get the ball rolling.
Questions Your Cat Might ask:
1. Why can’t I join you on the Dinner Table?
Cats like to be in high places, so naturally, the dinner table or kitchen counter seems like a fun hang out place. Tell them that this is why you have gotten them a very special place all to themselves: their very own cat tree!
2. Why can’t I eat the plants?
The answer to Fluffy’s pressing question about nibbling on the plants around your home, is that some of these are actually quite toxic to pets.
3. More treats, please?
Your cat may be wondering, why can’t I have that whole can of tuna fish?! It tastes so delicious. You must remind them that too much of a good thing can actually be bad for them, including heart problems, obesity and digestive upset.
4. Isn’t the sofa arm for scratching?
That big, fluffy couch arm seems like the appropriate place to dig their claws in (especially if there aren’t other alternatives). Show your cat the scratching post you bought just for them to be able to “scratch that itch.”
5. Why must you keep petting me?
Tell your cat you love them, and next time you will respect them telling you when they are done with the pets. When their ears flatten and their tail starts flicking, it may be time to take a break.
6. Why are you taking my potty away?
Remind your cat that you like to keep their litter box extra clean, as cats like their space very tidy!
7. Why must you leave me?
Tell them that you have to get to work for the day, and you do not mean to disrupt their routine (this can be very upsetting to them).
8. Who is this thing in my space?
Let your cat know that they are going to be sharing their space with a new friend, but learn how to properly introduce them.
9. Why can’t I go outside?
Some cats have special needs, or are not suited for outdoor environments due to various medical conditions. You must tell them that your neighborhood is unsafe for them to explore on their own, and take them out on supervised visits if you would like to.
10. Why do people declaw cats?
Tell them that some people may not know how harmful this is to a cat, and that is may actually cause ongoing behavior and medical issues.

These are just some of the things that have been in the back of your cat’s mind, and this is a great day to get them answered. The two of you can bond over this shared information and having things that they can have of their own will help to avoid the two of you arguing over whose stuff is whose!
