From Alone to a Forever Home: This is Khaleesi’s Story

Sometimes, the most incredible transformations start with the smallest glimmers of hope and that’s exactly what happened with Khaleesi. 

Khaleesi was found in the middle of the Mojave Desert, abandoned and alone by the side of the freeway. Timid, emaciated, and suffering from severe skin wounds, she was in desperate need of care. 

A couple was traveling to Reno from Los Angeles when they saw a small, sad figure peeking out from behind a bush. Instinctively, they turned the car around and approached cautiously. Khaleesi allowed them to gently pick her up, and at that moment, they knew they couldn’t walk away without her. 

After struggling to find a local shelter that could take her in, they brought Khalessi to an emergency vet in Reno who gave her immediate care. From there, she was transferred to the Nevada Humane Society’s Reno Campus, where she would go on to make an incredible recovery. 

When the couple got the call that Khaleesi was ready for adoption, they were amazed by her incredible transformation. The dog they had found, fragile and frightened, was now unrecognizable. She was healthy and brimming with happiness from nose to tail. They initially thought Khaleesi was an adult dog, but discovered she was just an 8-month-old puppy. With simple things like love, food, and care, she blossomed into a playful, energetic pup. 

Their connection with Khaleesi was undeniable, and since they couldn’t imagine their life without her, they adopted her and renamed her Mojo. She has since become the heart of their family, reminding them every day that Mojo was worth every bit of the journey. 

But Mojo’s story is just one of many. There are so many other animals out there who need that same care.
