Let's Go on a Date!

While our program pups love other dogs, they’re really looking forward to one-on-one time with you! They already have plenty of doggy friends at the shelter, so this program is all about giving them individual attention and enrichment. Thanks for understanding and helping us make their day special!

We ask that you not go to any dog parks or restaurants during your date. We do not allow our Dog Date pups to meet other animals, and restaurants can be challenging for our shelter pups to sit still. We want this day to lower stress and for everyone involved to have fun!

Please immediately contact Washoe County Animal Services at (775) 322-DOGS (3647) and then contact our Adoption Desk at (775) 856-2000 ext. 301. All emergency phone numbers will be given to you in the supply backpack and on the waiver. For non-emergencies, you will be provided with the phone number of our Dog Date Program Coordinator.

Dogs cannot be requested. We have selected dogs for this program based on temperament and activity level. You will be matched with a dog based on your questionnaire responses. Think of it like a blind date!

We love to get as much information as possible about the dog’s experience and yours! Please fill out a Report Card upon drop off and tell us about your day. This information will be shared with future potential adopters, on social media, and more! It’s incredibly helpful to our team.

While not often, it is possible. We always put the safety of our dogs first. For example, if the temperature is deemed unsafe for pups to be outside by our veterinarians, this date may be canceled. There are other factors as well that could contribute to a cancellation. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Requiring a donation from our Dog Date participants allows us to sustain this program and provide care for our animals. We provide harnesses, leashes, treats, seatbelts, bowls, and poop bags for our Dog Dates program. Thank you for your donation!
