Surrender Information

At Nevada Humane Society, we cherish the lifelong bonds between people and their pets. However, we also understand that sometimes you may face challenges that make it hard to keep your pet. Whether you're dealing with financial strain, an impending housing crisis, or animal behavioral issues, there are numerous avenues to explore that can help you keep your furry friend by your side. We're here to help!

Through our Animal Help Desk, we can help you explore all available options first including:

  • Financial & Assistance Resources
  • Help with Behavior Training
  • Low-Cost Veterinary Services
  • Options for Rehoming Your Pet
  • Pet Issues & Concerns

If you need to surrender your pet:

Step 1: We encourage you to visit our Pet Resource Hub, it’s filled with information and options that may help you keep your pet, rehome them safely yourself, or find other support in the community.

If you explore the Resource Hub and still feel surrendering is the right choice, you can complete our online surrender application, found in the Pet Resource Hub, to begin the process.

Step 2: Our team will review the application and determine the best pathway for the animal.

Step 3: A follow-up call will be made, resources will be provided, and – if necessary – an appointment will be scheduled with our Admissions Team.

Surrender Fees & Financial Assistance

We understand that surrendering your pet can be a difficult decision, and we're here to help with compassion and understanding. To support the care and rehoming of every animal that comes to us, we do charge a surrender fee:

  • $30 for spayed or neutered (altered) cats & dogs
  • $50 for unaltered cats & dogs
  • $10 for small animals

This fee helps provide essential care, including food, shelter, medical treatment, and rehoming efforts.

If you’re experiencing financial hardship, don’t worry—please reach out. We’ll work with you to find a solution because we believe that every animal deserves a second chance, and we want to support you through this process.
