As they say, timing is everything.
Jazz was brought to our Reno shelter as a stray the beginning of July with a broken pelvis and severely damaged hip from an unknown traumatic event. She required surgery and rehabilitation sessions at Sierra Veterinary Specialist (SVS) followed by several weeks in foster care to ensure Jazz’s injuries healed correctly. When Valeria’s (now Jazz) family had been looking for a dog since early in the pandemic, they were struggling to find a dog that would get along with their cats. But, finding Jazz was worth the wait.
Her rehab consisted of eight sessions using the water treadmill for hydrotherapy helping her restore mobility and improve her quality of life. “I started fostering Jazz thinking it was going to be a few days until she needed her sutures out- but then, when I found out she needed rehab, it was somehow meant to be as she needed rehab at SVS where I work. She was an absolute dream of a foster. She slept on the bed with us every night and went to work with me every day.” – Shae, Jazz’s Foster.
Jazz bonded with Shae’s daughter and they became the best of friends. Their other dogs accepted Jazz as one of the pack and were gentle when it came to playing so that it didn’t interfere with her healing. When I saw Shae leaving our shelter with Jazz to foster her, I knew the she was in amazing hands. Shae used to work at Nevada Humane Society (NHS) and took care of my senior dog, Petey, before I adopted him, taking him to adoption events and knowing he was an older guy, gave him extra love. I knew Jazz was going to be loved and taken care of while she healed from her surgery.
It was through a co-worker of Shae’s that Jazz found her forever home with Michelle and her family in the Bay Area. After exchanging phone calls and photos of Jazz, Michelle and her family knew Jazz was going to be the perfect addition to their family. While Michelle and her family knew about Jazz’s injuries, that didn’t deter them as she was not only sweet but the perfect size
and has a wonderful disposition.
