A small, stray dog with the brightest eyes and welcoming demeanor came through our doors. Dragonfly, who is now known as Penny, has the most resilient spirit.
When I first met her in her kennel, she was as happy as can be. We believed at first that she had spinal trauma, because her back legs were not working properly. This made it difficult for this sweet girl to get around. At only six-months-old, this poor girl was going through so much. When I interacted with her, she pulled her back legs on the ground behind her and did not seem to have much strength in her hind end. She kindly gave me a kiss on the hand to say hello. Our Dog Care Team gave her supervised time in the play yard to skip and hop around as best she could, and build up her strength.
When Angela and Larry lost their dog, they figured that this would be the last dog they would ever own, and donated the toys and food to shelter pets. They were devastated by the loss of their pup, and about a month later, they sought a short-term foster just to help out a pet in need and fill their hearts for a while. Angela found herself scrolling through Penny’s photos on our website, and noticed something in the small dog’s mouth.
