Do you enjoy hiking? Do you want a buddy to hike with you? Then the Hiking Buddies Program might be for you.
Hiking Buddies is a great opportunity for those who want to help shelter dogs, but aren’t able to commit to regular volunteering. Dogs who participate in Hiking Buddies learn basic social skills, get some much needed exercise, and experience a break from the shelter. People who participate in Hiking Buddies enjoy the companionship of a dog and can feel good that they are helping to prepare these dogs for their new homes.
How To Become a Hiking Buddy:
Step 1: Fill out a volunteer profile
If you are interested in becoming a Hiking Buddy for Nevada Humane Society, please click here to fill out a volunteer profile. NHS receives hundreds of profiles every month, and each profile is given individual attention. We work tirelessly to move each profile through the system as quickly as possible. If you have not heard from us within two weeks, please call right away!
Step 2: Attend orientation
All Hiking Buddies need to attend a 2-hour orientation (which includes a dog handling class) prior to hiking. Once your profile has been reviewed, you will receive directions for how to register for orientation. Orientations are held every other month. Once you’ve attended orientation, you are ready to help make Reno a better place!
